Terms of service

1) Acceptance

By downloading or using AuthenticKey (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use / End-User License Agreement ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

These Terms are between you and AuthenticKey (the "Licensor"), not with Apple Inc., Google LLC, or any other app store provider. The App is licensed, not sold.

Privacy is governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the App, you also agree to the Privacy Policy.

2) Scope of license

  • We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to install and use the App on devices you own or control, as permitted by the applicable app store usage rules.
  • You may not copy, modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from the App, except to the extent such restrictions are prohibited by law.
  • You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute, or make the App available to third parties.
  • Updates provided by us are included in this license, unless we provide a separate license for an update.

3) What the App does (and does not do)

  • The App generates and stores two-factor authentication (2FA) codes (e.g., TOTP/HOTP) for use with third-party accounts.
  • On-device by default: 2FA secrets are processed and stored on your device. We do not have access to your secrets. If you enable iCloud backup, secrets are end-to-end encrypted by Apple before leaving your device.
  • The App does not operate or control any third-party services you protect with 2FA. You are solely responsible for safeguarding your secrets, recovery codes, and backups.
  • The App is not designed for use in regulated environments requiring special compliance (e.g., HIPAA, GLBA, FISMA), unless you independently ensure compliance.

4) Your responsibilities

  • Keep your device secure (PIN/biometric), maintain up-to-date OS, and make your own backups (e.g., iCloud Keychain/backup) if desired.
  • Do not use the App for unlawful purposes or in violation of any third-party terms.
  • If you transfer or dispose of a device, remove the App and your secrets first.

5) Purchases & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions (if offered) are processed by the app stores. Entitlements and billing are managed by the store or our authorized providers. See the store terms for managing or canceling subscriptions.

6) Maintenance & support

We are responsible for App maintenance and support. Contact: [email protected].

Apple, Google, and other app stores have no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.

7) Third-party terms & services

Your use of third-party services (e.g., Apple iCloud, app stores) is subject to their terms and policies. You must comply with all applicable third-party terms when using the App.

8) Data & privacy

We process limited data to operate and improve the App, as described in our Privacy Policy. By using the App, you consent to such processing in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

9) Export & sanctions compliance

You represent that you are not located in an embargoed country or on any government list of prohibited or restricted parties and that you will comply with applicable export laws.

10) Warranty disclaimer

The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the App will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that defects will be corrected.

11) Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, security breaches arising from your device compromise, or third-party account lockouts. Our total liability for any claims relating to the App shall not exceed the amounts you paid (if any) for the App or subscriptions in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

12) Apple-specific terms (third-party beneficiary)

  • You acknowledge and agree that Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance of the Terms, Apple will have the right to enforce the Terms against you.
  • These Terms may not conflict with Apple Media Services' Usage Rules. We confirm they do not.

13) Changes, suspension, termination

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance. We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these Terms. Upon termination, you must cease using the App and delete it from your devices.

14) Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the European Union Member State where AuthenticKey is registered (without regard to conflict-of-law rules). If a court finds any provision unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
